REFLECTION ON WEEK 7: CORPUS LINGUISTICS
This
week we have learned about corpus linguistics. This is the first time we heard
about this subject. It is a new knowledge we have learned. Corpus linguistics
is the study of language. It is seen as the study of linguistics phenomena
through large collections of machine-readable texts which is called corpora.
Journals, newspapers, speeches, texts or spoken language (transcribed) are
types of corpora (plural word for corpus).
Corpus
linguistics and computer application are related to each other. Therefore, we
also learned about the roles of computers in corpus linguistics. What are the
roles of computers in corpus linguistics?

to store huge amount of text

to quickly retrieve huge amounts of texts

to retrieve words, phrases or whole texts in context

to sort out linguistic items
5.
to increase reliability in searching, counting and
sorting linguistics items
